Business as Usual in an Unusual World

Whether you’re on the “abundance of caution” or the “this is crazy town” ends of the spectrum, the fact is that for the immediate future the COVID-19 virus infection has interrupted and changed every facet of our lives. We are alternately soothed or assaulted by the wealth – or dearth – of information and its many sources. At Crowley, our plan is to put one foot in front of the other as it is safe to do so. We know that…

Archiving “The Greatest”: Digitizing Rare History for the Muhammad Ali Center

In a time when the civil rights movement was at its peak and racial divides spread deep and wide, one African American teen and eleven established white businessmen joined together for the sake of success, boxing and the future of “The Greatest,” Muhammad Ali. In today’s blog, we’re combining history and present day to show how knowledgeable teams (in this case, the Louisville Sponsoring Group and The Crowley Company) can provide already successful entities (Muhammad Ali and the Muhammad Ali Center)…

Happy (T)Hanksgiving, Part Six

Aw, just look at our sweet Hank. In November 2013, Cassie Hahn, an 11-year veteran of the Crowley administrative team, brought in her roly-poly English bulldog pup with more wrinkles than a linen suit on a hot day. The short little legs of this irresistible bundle of fur could barely support his king-sized head and the Maryland office immediately fell in love. Hank inspired our very first “Hanksgiving” post and for the sixth year, the tradition continues. Like Hank, Crowley has matured…

Celebrating American Archives

October is officially American Archives month and we’ve been so busy with the day-to-day of digitizing collections, pairing scanners to end-users and attending trade shows that we find the month quickly escaping. So we’re going to stop, take a breath and celebrate just a few of the American archives and their owners and industries that we’ve had the pleasure to work with over the past twelve months. From a First Lady (Typefaces, Animal Rights and the “It” Girl) to Pro Football…

What the FADGI %*#&!? Part Two: Is FADGI for Everyone?

Lesson from my parents: Just because it’s cool doesn’t make it right. As a teen, this advice was definitely not well-received. A few decades removed, I can more appreciate the sentiment (and also the fact that it was more likely budget-driven than about taking the moral high road). It might be a bit of a stretch, but FADGI is cool…and it also isn’t (yet) for everyone. Recap: What is FADGI? In Part One of this series, we identified FADGI as a common set of…

What the FADGI %*#&!? (Part One: Understanding Basics)

March Madness may be the talk of the water cooler this week, but we’ve bigger fish to fry in the imaging world (subliminal Lenten reference). One of today’s hottest topics is the evolution of digital imaging standards, which is being prodded into daily conversation by the increasing push to meet FADGI – Federal Agencies Digital Guidelines Initiative – compliance. It’s simple. It’s complex. It’s confusing. It’s a work in progress. The good news is that there is increasing recognition – specifically among federal agencies…

From Vegas to the Kitchen Sink

We’re entering 2018 at a fast pace. I noticed this in my own work as I received replies to emails with “Happy New Year” and thinking, “Oh, right, it’s a new year….” My lack of social graces aside, I’m happy to be hitting the ground running, trying to keep up with this good company I call home. After a short and productive holiday break, The Crowley Company is full steam ahead on all fronts: manufacturing; scanner sales; and digitization services. Manufacturing. Canon  U.S.A.,…

DAR, Darling: Digitizing Revolutionary Ladies

October is American Archives Month, a celebration of America’s history and the archivists, organizations and physical buildings that keep them safe and available to the world at large. Each week this month we’ll highlight a facet of how The Crowley Company partners with archivists and historians to help preserve and share American archives.   In a previous blog, we detailed the factions of the National Society Daughters of the Revolution (NSDAR) and the many ways in which The Crowley Company has partnered to preserve some…

30 (Days); 9 (Industries); One (Chance to Win): A Month in Crowley Scanner Sales

In our little corner of the blogosphere, we love to “zoom in” on a single client’s hardware or imaging services digitization journey. Rarely do we “zoom out” and look at the various vertical markets that make up Crowley’s diverse client base. Each scanning story we’ve told so far is a tile in the larger mosaic of Crowley’s vast market reach. If I give the complete rundown of four decades of Crowley sales, this blog will be 17 pages long and I’ll lose my job…
