ColorGauge Targets
Precision Color and Exposure Targets for Macro and Micro Imaging
The ColorGauge targets family provides professional-grade miniaturized color and exposure targets for high-precision imaging workflows. Developed in cooperation with Munsell Color Services, these targets use true pigmented color paints, not ink-jet or photographic reproductions, ensuring stable, reproducible color and gray measurements.
Whether you are imaging artifacts, biological specimens, or delicate objects in macro, micro, or ultra-close-up applications, ColorGauge Targets help you verify exposure, white balance, and dynamic range with precision.
ColorGauge Target Options
All ColorGauge targets feature:
- 18 Munsell-based color patches, identical to the GretagMacbeth™ ColorChecker®
- 12 spectrally neutral gray patches for exposure and white balance verification
- Aircraft-grade anodized aluminum backing for durability
- Center gray patch options: gloss or matte
- Optional AR-coated quartz glass for harsh, wet, or submersible applications
Comparison Chart
| Target | Overall Size (HxWxT) | Patch Size | Gray Options | Ideal Applications |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Micro | 1-3/8″ x 1-5/8″ x 0.060″ | 1/4″ x 1/4″ | Gloss or Matte | Macro photography, museum imaging, laboratory close-ups |
| Nano | 11/16″ x 13/16″ x 0.060″ | 1/8″ x 1/8″ | Gloss or Matte | Ultra-close-up imaging, endoscopic photography, medical imaging |
| Pico | 12/32″ x 7/16″ x 0.060″ | 1/16″ x 1/16″ | Gloss or Matte | Micro-imaging, extreme macro, constrained-space scientific imaging |
Note: All targets are hand-assembled, so minor patch misalignments may occur but do not affect measurement accuracy.
Gray Patch Options
Each ColorGauge target features precision-crafted gray patches that support accurate exposure, white balance, and tonal calibration across imaging systems. Choose from gloss or matte finishes to best match your capture environment and lighting setup.
Gloss Gray
- Extended dynamic range (density ~2.4)
- Best for measuring imager noise in high magnification applications
- Specular reflections may occur for <45°/0° illumination without crossed polarizers
Matte Gray
- Lower dynamic range (density ~1.6)
- Ideal for narrow illumination geometries such as on-camera flash or endoscopic setups
- Not recommended for noise measurement at very high magnifications
Matte with AR-Coated Glass
- Water- and alcohol-proof for harsh or submersible environments
- Protects target from scratches and moisture while maintaining color fidelity
