Integrated Color, Tone, and Resolution Verification for Professional Imaging
The ColorGauge RezChecker Target family combines color accuracy, tonal response, white balance, and spatial resolution measurement into a single, compact reference target. Designed for use with digital cameras and scanners, RezChecker targets support quantitative evaluation of imaging system performance using ISO 12233 and ISO 16067 methodologies.
Developed in cooperation with Munsell Color Services, all RezChecker targets are manufactured using the same pigmented color paints found in the original GretagMacbeth ColorChecker, ensuring long-term spectral stability and repeatable results. This makes the RezChecker family well suited for cultural heritage digitization, scientific imaging, industrial inspection, and any workflow where verified image quality matters.
Dual-Purpose Image Quality Evaluation
Unlike traditional color-only targets, RezChecker targets provide a unified approach to image quality verification:

Color & Tone Fidelity
Each target includes 18 Munsell-based color patches and 12 spectrally neutral gray patches for assessing color accuracy, exposure, tone reproduction, and white balance. -
Resolution & SFR/MTF Measurement
Integrated slant-edge features enable reliable SFR / MTF analysis up to 3000 dpi (60 cycles/mm) with appropriate software, while visual hyperbolic wedges allow fast visual assessment of limiting resolution up to 850 dpi.
This combined capability allows imaging teams to validate optical performance and color fidelity in a single capture—saving time while improving confidence.
RezChecker Target Options
The RezChecker family is available in two sizes to support different imaging environments and fields of view:
RezChecker Micro
Designed for higher-resolution systems and larger capture areas, the RezChecker Micro offers expanded patch size and increased usability for copy stand and camera-based digitization.

Both targets feature identical analytical elements and color content; selection is based on system resolution, magnification, and working distance.
Built for Professional Use
Each RezChecker target is constructed on aircraft-grade anodized aluminum, providing a rigid, dimensionally stable platform suitable for both lab and field environments. All patches are recessed below the surface to reduce handling wear and environmental damage.
Because these targets are hand-cut and assembled, very minor patch misalignments may occur. These do not affect analytical performance or measurement accuracy.
Gray Patch Options
Each RezChecker target includes precision gray patches engineered to support accurate tonal and exposure assessment. Multiple configurations are available to match your lighting geometry and measurement goals.
Gloss Gray
- Extended dynamic range (~2.4 density)
- Ideal for evaluating sensor performance and measuring imager noise
- May produce specular reflections at illumination geometries below 45°/0° without crossed polarizers
Matte Gray
- Lower dynamic range (~1.6 density)
- Better suited for narrow illumination setups such as endoscopic imaging or direct on-camera flash
- Not recommended for quantitative noise measurement at high magnification
Matte with AR-Coated Glass (Micro only)
- Optical-grade quartz cover glass
- Water- and alcohol-resistant for wet or high-humidity environments
- Designed for harsh or submersible imaging conditions
Calibration and Certification
Optional NIST-traceable calibration and certification is available for the color and gray patches. This service provides documented reflectance values and is ideal for institutional, archival, and research workflows that require traceable, standards-based verification.
